Salisbury is a great day out, with its beautiful Cathedral set in the Close. There are guided tours available of the Cathedral and the grounds are often set out with sculpture exhibitions. But there is plenty more to see in Salisbury as well as the cathedral. The early Norman city of Old Sarum is on the outskirts of the modern city and offers stunning views across the modern city. There’s the Medieval Poultry Cross, the Salisbury Museum, Mompesson House and Arundells, former home of Edward Heath.

For aviation enthusiasts there is the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection at Old Sarum Airfield, with both complete airframes and cockpit sections from classic jets you can actually sit in (currently subject to Covid-19 restrictions).

There’s a regular market every Tuesday and Saturday and a plethora of boutique shops and great food and drink.
