Part of the Longleat Estate (although quite some way from the house itself), Cheddar Gorge is one of the great natural features of the south-west. Cleaving into an escarpment looking out over the Somerset Levels, the views from the top are magnificent (you can see as far as Glastonbury Tor). As well as investing in local cheese (cave-aged) down in the village, you can also tour the interesting cave complexes. There are free public footpaths traversing the escarpment and running down into the village.
