Anyone who wants to spend a short break or holiday in the great outdoors will be spoilt for choice when they stay at The Old Rectory. Situated in the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (Cranbornechase.org.uk), visitors have access to a protected environment which is rich in wildlife, natural habitats and wonderful walking routes. Cranborne Chase is a designated International Dark Sky Reserve which means it possesses exceptional quality of starry nights and a nocturnal environment that is now specially protected.
Some major national walking routes pass through the surroundings of The Old Rectory: Monarch’s Way; Wessex Ridgeway; Mid Wilts Way; White Horse Trail and the Stour Valley Way.
There are some notable National Trust properties in the area including Stourhead and Stonehenge and these properties have additional walking routes that take you through some of the less-visited parts of the estates.
Just behind The Old Rectory lies the Great Ridge from which you can see the spire of Salisbury Cathedral 14 miles away. In nearby Fonthill Bishop there are some stunning walks around the lakes and grounds of the Fonthill estate.
So if you want to get away from it all, look no further than Chicklade in Wiltshire. You will be less than 2 hours from London, but you could be a world away.
